Karisma Kapoor in the song Bholi Si Surat from Bollywood classic "Dil To Pagal Hai" (1997). Just as her career, films and dance moves have influenced today's artists, from Preity Zinta to Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor's creative sense of style has also made a huge impact as well. At the time of Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla ruled in the early 1990s, hair style & make up almost all the same. Bohemian style & Grunge look that carried by international Vogue spreading to India. All top actresses at that time came with the same clothes and tassel dangle friz. Part 1 And the story goes... The major changes occurred after Raja Hindustani was released in 1996. Collaboration between Karisma and Manish Malhotra returned to the 60s era (remember Sadhana & Babita in their golden days). This film forced all curly-hair women to be straightened as Karisma's. What else? Her blue eyes has increased contact lens's sales in India. They want blue-eyed like Karisma, although in this film she uses brown contact lenses. It's odd. Red mini dress that was used to seduce Raja Hindustani also took back mini-skirt into the limelight. With Karisma's straightened hair, the trend shifted. Other actresses have adopted this style, including: Kajol and Rani Mukherjee in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001), Aishwarya Rai in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Mohabbatein (2000). They're still wearing this style until now, but not Karisma. Part 2 Dil To Pagal Hai: Fashion Statement In this stylish film, Karisma wore what would become a signature black leather pants. Film stars would later wear several versions of the pants throughout the decade. Some other important items that she inherited in this movie were: hot pants, micro mini skirt, tank top and high-heel shoes. Whatever Karisma wore here was a big evolution in the Bollywood film. At that time Hindi cinema started into the international level and Dil To Pagal Hai has changed the style & whole image of Bollywood. *Followed by: Kajol & Rani Mukherjee in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Rani Mukherjee in Hello Brother (1999), Rani Mukherjee & Preity Zinta in Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega (2000), female stars in Mohabbatein (2000), Kareena Kapoor in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...(2001), Preity Zinta in Dil Chahta Hai (2001) & Dil Hai Tumhaara (2002), Kareena Kapoor in Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002), Amrita Rao in Ishq Vishk (2004) and... hundreds of other Bollywood mainstream til today! Her one fitness top and black micro-mini made her a fashion trendsetter, and almost everyone wanted that Karisma Kapoor connection. Part 3 She has changed, then Bollywood changed... Accessories were key to Karisma's look. Karisma Kapoor embraced shine black glasses (mostly in her 90s films, such as: Ajay, Krishna and Rakshak), hats, hair style and even make up. Her bold choices encouraged female artists to embrace their sleeker, sexier side. *Followed by: Rani Mukherjee & Preity Zinta in Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega (2000), Salman Khan & Bipasha Bashu in No Entry (2005) and many more... Part 4 Tube top fitted her yummy figure in Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge (2000), then Preity wore it in Salaam Namaste (2005). And oh... let's not forget the knit hats too! Part 5 Boots story Karisma loves boots and so does she! Karisma wore boots in most of her films, including Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge (2000). Then Rani, Preity and Kareena wore boots too. Part 6 Make up & Hair style When she appeared without make up in Fiza (2000), the others follow. *Followed by: Urmila Matondkar in Pinjar (2003), Kareena Kapoor in Dev (2004) & Omkara (2006), Rani Mukherjee in Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007) and Aishwarya Rai in Provoked (2006). Part 7 Long or short hair, straight or frizz it doesn't matter But for others, it really matters... More than a decade later, Rani Hindustanis style still inspires the fashion forward. Trend-setting stars like Kareena Kapoor are resetting Karisma-influenced fashion, dance moves and film trends. "Yes, Karisma has been iconic in changing the look in Hindi films," says designer Manish Malhotra. Don't we all agree? http://karisma-kapoor.webs.com/
