A 20-year-old Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) undergraduate, believed to have been raped, was found strangled in her rented house in Bandar Mahkota Cheras near here early today. The semi-nude body of Tang Lai Meng, who is from Ipoh and a second year diploma in business administration student, was found with her hands bound to her back. An elderly neighbour in his 60s who declined to be named was taking his daily walk on the backlane of the the Jalan Putera 4/1 double-storey house in Section 1 at 11am when he spotted the backdoor grille pried open. Suspecting something amiss, he called the police who arrived within minutes and found the front gate and door ajar. When calls to the occupants went unanswered, they stepped in and found Tang on a bed in the master bedroom. Police said Tang, clad only in a T-shirt, was strangled with a pillow case found coiled round her neck. They also found an examination result slip which showed Tang was Investigators suspect the assailant, who is believed to be someone known to the victim, had gained entry into the house by breaking through the rear window and fled through the main door.
