Lang Kidby got toether with Peter McMillan and organized the building of this Vimy replica so that they could recreate the first truly international flight. That of Ross and Keith Smith from England to Australia in 1919. The replica was updated with a steel tube fuselage by Bill Whitney and built here in Brisbane. To overcome bureaucratic obstacles the wings and final construction with test flying was done in California. Apart from an engine problem in Sumatra, the replica gave less trouble than the accompanying Islander and Nomad. Chris Conroys Concept Aviation put out a good VHS video a few years ago as Air Australia Vol 1 which gives a good history of the construction of this replica. The replica flew into the Archerfield Airshow in October 1994 after this stop at Caboolture. Then on down to Sydney as part of the 75th anniversary of the original flight.
