90 years to the day after Alcock and Brown landed their Vimy in Ireland, The Brooklands Vimy replica NX71MY, took off from Ireland to fly past Brooklands. It stopped off at Fairoaks on the way. Background: The Vickers Vimy Replica was built in America in 1994 and in the same year, it flew from Brooklands to Australia Re-enacting the ground breaking flight of 1919. The same aircraft later also re-enacted the flight to South Africa (1920) and then finally in 2005 re-enacted the 1909 Alcock and Brown Transatlantic flight. The aircraft will retire from active duty at the end of 2009 and will be on display at Brooklands Museum.
