No if they are all at idle ( the other units) then their traction motors are not providing power. They would have been isolated to be DIT. The Mu cable doesnt transfer power to them so they were jsut along for the ride.

bet the flanges on the wheels on that DD40 were really taking it in the rear, those long 8 axle trucks really werent meant for those tight curves

It's possible the DDA40X was supplying all the power, and using the helpers as extra traction motors, without their prime mover running.

From what I hear, the other units on this train were idle, meaning that the DDA40-X was doing all the work.
