Top? Bottom? Only these words can be determined by a mind that needs others against which it can measure its self to determine it's worth. This is not objectivism. The one's on the bottom as you call it, do not exist for the sake of the one's on top, as you call it. No man exists to serve as a vehicle or obstacle of another man. THIS is the philosophy of objectivism, that no man exists to serve antother man.

@ChandlerRahl Maybe if top - bottom is the only way you can understand things then you deserve to be on the bottom; However, I suggest you look at #10 in the series until you comprehend its meaning - the trader principle where people trade back and fourth as equals. The top/bottom view is one of domination and force of one over another, collectivism requires the hierarchy view and despises individuality.

How do the people on "bottom" get a job on "bottom" unless the person on "top" has something for that bottom person to make? Its shown plainly in ATLAS SHRUGGED by Ayn. The men on the top are the men of the mind, who think up new ideas and creations. The bottom ones are less able to think of those new ideas, but are still able to do their job well and follow the instructions to make the thought-of-inventions. The ones on top do NOT need the ones on bottom. It is the other way around.

Nearly all stories create a little microcosm where a lesson can be told. Rand's books, albeit very sophisticated, also are not holistic of every single thing. That is why she went on to write about current events so much. But even then one person can not cover every single thing. So when I hear people criticize Rand's "solution for the world" as 'she just isn't practical', I hope people realize that Rand merely provides a very practical platform to live...both personally and socially.

@gamesmaster35 Everyone can't be equal or average. Without losers there are no winners. If you take incentive, we all suffer. This is why no country has risen to greatness under socialism. When you reward behavior/genes you end up with more of them. When you punish behavior you end up with less of it. This is why it is wrong to take from producers to give to non-producers. I am for very limited and strict social safety nets. I am against helping a mom raise her baby she had illgetimatly
