AT Maria's best, the voice was beautiful, especially in the early 1950's.

2 things. First, this is from the 1983 Met 100th Anniversary Gala. Second, shut up.

I didn't think she really ever sung the queen of the night...Well I have to agree I wouldn't have sung this a 3rd lower...BTW that Masters of the Voice is disc 1 track 9 she rocks it there...best I've heard ever.

im not sure, the video doesnt have a date, shes in her early 80s now, she could have been like 60 here maybe. Im sure thats why its transposed, but my stance on it is that if you cant sing it, dont sing it. Sutherland, however, sang that queen of the night aria a wholestep low her entire career. there are other singers who have still performed at that age and done a good job, Marilyn Horne was performing into her 60s, and montserrat still hasnt really retired, shes 75.

How old was she here? Maybe the reason for the transposition. Just a thought. I love the recording when she was young found on Master of the Voice, Soprano disc 2 track 9! Kinda unbeatable.

shes never off pitch cos she has the money for good clean heroin

You're such a pompous idiot that responding to you is unnecessary. You love Bartoli and Florez, so you obviously like teensy weensy insignificant voices: that's your choice -- but you are sill a moron with no taste. Grow up.
skitzo429 (December 8th, 2008 @ 12:20 am)
the reason shes never off pitch is because she routinely transposes roles down into lower keys so she can sing the coloratura aria, this for instance, is a THIRD lower than its supposed to be

Bartoli's coloratura is A LOT cleaner than joan sutherland, shes one of the best. Juan Diego also happens to be the best Rossini tenor in the world, essentially anything you have to say about him means nothing.

a lot of people criticized Caballe because she didnt perform high Ds and Es all the time, but she had a beautiful voice, youre closed minded if you think she wasnt one of the great sopranos of the 20th century. and Callas, for that matter, when she did sing high Es, sound terrible
skitzo429 (December 8th, 2008 @ 12:11 am)
there are A LOT of people that are much better than Callas, she had her career because she was a great actress and her voice was 'unique,' it was by no means the best or most beautiful.

I dont think anyones eyebrows are more animated than Cecelia Bartoli, and 'most agile soprano ever' may be a bit of an overstatement. Just becuse she was very famous does not deem her 'most agile ever.' She also became notorious for singing coloratura roles in lower keys, this for instance is a THIRD lower than its supposed to be.
