OK pmpanga, listen up and try to pay attention. When you tell Windows to Shutdown, Windows sends a programming instruction to the BIOS telling it to shut down the PC. That is software talking to hardware. In Windows 98, that programming had a flaw. Holding down the PWR button is an ungracefull way to shut down, because it can corrupt the registry, and should be avoided unless you have no choice.
